Science Week 2012
The students and tutors of the Medical Laboratory Science course of Colaiste Dhulaigh C.F.E. will be running a number of experiments, for 4th, 5th and 6th year secondary students, during the week of the 30th of January to the 3rd of February. The experiments shall be carried out using BIORAD ExplorerTM Kits. The programme is aimed to give students an understanding of molecular biology and biotechnology. It will also provide them with an opportunity to gain some practical experience of molecular biology and biotechnology laboratory techniques
The workshops running are
· DNA Fingerprinting – matching crime scene DNA with suspects DNA
· Bacterial Transformation – Bacteria that glow in the dark
· Genes in a bottle – Extract your own DNA
The experimental programme will take place from 10am until 4 pm each day. The booking fee is 10 Euro per student. Students are welcome to attend without their teachers provided they have either a letter of permission from their school or from a parent or guardian.
